In your content area/major area groups, write two paragraphs in response to the following questions.
(1) Compare strategies for directed instruction and constructivism for your area. Figures 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 in the Roblyer reading are helpful. What strategies are typically used in your area? What are your views on directed instruction vs. constructivist instruction for teaching in your area?
(2) Come up with (a) an example of how you might use technology to support a directed instruction lesson in your subject area, and (b) an example of how you might use technology to support a constructivist lesson. Things to address for each example: what are you teaching, how would you teach it? Who are your students? What technology/technologies would you use to support your lesson, and why (i.e., what about the technology made you think it would be a good "fit" for supporting the particular lesson and teaching model)?
Considering UDL, revisit your responses to the above activity.
1. Use the Curriculum Barriers tool to investigate the potential limitations to your teaching examples for directed instruction and constructivism. (I will provide the student qualities that you'll need to address in the activity.) When done, copy and paste the table you generated into your document from last week.
2. Reflect: Discuss and write your thoughts on the following: What might you do to address the barriers you found in your lessons? How has knowing your students' strengths and weakness changed how you might plan a lesson?
